Back in Action

My stats tells me that there are still newcomers and re-occuring IPs who still visit my blog on a daily basis!! Well, thanks for being dedicated and still tuning in! Where have I been?

No, I haven't ran out of gigs and have nothing to update. In fact, I have been so busy juggling everything that I've hardly had time to write something (no excuse I know!)

Over October and now, I was just busy doing a re-vamp of my Friday nite program, trying to line up guests and celebrity interviews each week plus losta after hours recording and editing @_@...crazy stuff I tell ya. And since I'm so pedantic about everything, I was making sure that each and every bit of the material was top notch and broadcastable...New theme of the show is to be a more interactive with the audience, so if you see me around Chinatown or the CBD with a mic, don't be shy and say hi! haha

Interview with Jacky Cheung fell right through when he was here for this world tour, he was just too busy to see any press or even say hello...but sources close to me told me that he great to all the staff backstage, just that his media team didn't really plan to see anybody.  He was at Vodafone Arena for rehearsals late afternoon around 5 and pretty much started the show on time at 8.15pm anyway...so in between i guess he really didn't have much time anyway.

Have a MC gig this weekend, can't say much for now, but I'm told that the guests will arrive on a boat to the venue and it's my job to welcome them from the deck!! how exciting!

A good friend of mine is organising a modelling competition in the new year, which also gets made into a calendar. One girl per month?!?! haha...Been invited to co-MC the show, much like Australian Idol etc..haha, mostly handling the audience etc...more on that later when I actually meet the organisers.

On a personal note, going to be moving even closer into the city, right in the CBD this time!! haha, with great views of the city. Thx Bob for saying he would help and putting furniture together, appreciate it mate! haha. Gonna miss Docklands though, it was good by the harbour, quiet with sea breezes...if it's hot these few days, gonna juice up the gym, pool and jaccuci as much as possible in the sun!

OH..and if you're home on the weekends...don't tuned into CH31 cos if you see me, you won't recognise me since the camera adds bloody 10 pounds!! I don't wanna be seen like that!!! haha...but if you're keen, I dare ya!

Laters all,

Billy

Is this the beginning of another career?

Out of the blue on Facebook, (yes I have Facebook too!) I received a message asking if I MC for weddings and what's my ongoing rate. So now I guess I MC for weddings too!! Wouldn't mind though, it would be great to be part of somebody's special day. Have to put my portfolio together then, have bits and pieces everywhere, photos, videos, etc. Have to present all of this to my client =) haha.

I am now officially presenting on 3 different radio stations! Met this guy at a function on the weekend, and he asked if I would like to him help him host his Cantonese show tonight on 3ZZZ FM92.3. Not sure what the contents are, but I will just go with the flow so if you're still up from 11pm tonight, tune into FM92.3!

That's it for now, better get back to writing my script for another segment on SBS Alchemy. I'm writing about Jacky Cheung 張學友 who's coming to Melbourne for his world tour this Sunday night at Vodaphone Arena! Can't wait!

Busy Busy September

MC Shows

Finally hosted my last scheduled show on 15th of Sept, though I have a feeling there's more to come =) Kelly S was great as usual, an awesome performer in fact.  We were only asked to MC the Hong Kong Club Ball, but I ended up asking Kelly to sing, but before you know it, she was all prepared with a CD full of her singing tracks, so it was only a matter of getting her a mic! Well done Kel!

Elsa asked me to join her club...haha, I said yes...mite as well, since I'm sorta Hongkie.

Elsa was the one who asked us to host!

Newspaper

September has truly been a month of media exposure! Was interviewed by a Chinese Newspaper (no, not the free ones you can pick up!) about my career in radio. Had to dig up all of my good pics so they can publish it with my article. In case you were wondering what I said, it's basically along the lines of how I got into broadcasting and where it has taken me so far. They gave me a soft copy of it:

3CW Radio

My current Cantonese show needs a long overdue facelift...so now in the process of recording new sound bytes and writing new material. Hopefully we can launch it at the start of October. Jason has been a great help with the recording and new music. Hopefully, all of that will pull together along with interviews and guests lined up for the show.

Also going to set up a new email and website for the facelift as well, along with a new name!! Stay tuned!

SBS Radio

Been getting involved with Jennifer Ho from SBS Alchemy with her Asian Pop Show, only this time it's all in English which is a change! Going to start a series of Cantonese Music Segments in the coming weeks.  I have recorded the first episode already, going on air this Thursday nite from 11pm onwards on FM 93.1 so tune in! Also had the chance to interview a new hip-hop artist called Lo.J, though he looks kinda hardcore on his album, he was actually quite friendly to talk to. Check out his website.

Apart from that, did a couple of translated voice over for interviews with another new band, A-DAY (URL)

Television

Asian Television on Channel 31 asked me to be the anchor for their community news segment. It was sorta a last minute thing, so I had to squeeze it in between recording, rehearsals and writing! It's a half hour segment every second Sunday from 7pm to 7.30pm on Channel 31. My first show will be on this weekend, Sept 30th. They are desperately trying to win some ads for that time slot, so I'm in the process of pitching new ideas to fill up that time slot with more interesting stuff rather then ppl eating at dinners and balls! Was thinking of a variety show...but more on that later.

Man was I in for a surprise!!! Basically there were 3 segments I had to prepare:

1: Media Press Conference, exclusively for Chinese Media.
2: Mid-Autumn Festival at Box Hill
3. Buddhist Grand Master Bai Yun visiting Melbourne in OCT.

Had to translate all of that from Chinese to English, then write up my own script in English, memorise it (cos they don't have a teleprompter yet!!!) and shoot my 'desk' scenes in front of a blue screen! Basically I had to look at the camera the whole time, and deliver all the lines I wrote earlier! So don't be too surprised that it's crappy when you watch it on Sunday cos it was rushed within 3 hrs (including finding out what I was doing, and translating!) But I'm pretty sure that it's going to be much better every time!

Theatre

Last but not least, the Chinese Opera finally wrapped up yesterday! I was in 2 sets, so played different characters for each of them. Everybody was quite professional and it was a sold out crowd at Collingwood Town Hhall! Had rehearsals every Sunday evening, and even more as we got closer to the day.  Got there nice and early on Sunday for makeup and costume! The costumes were gorgeous but took ages to put on! Very hot too in the costume and there was a point I was wearing 2 pair of pants!

Overall, it was a great performance, and the audience gave a loud round of applause at the end. You know they were interested the whole time when they're silent and didn't get distracted. It was a charity show with part proceeds going to ake a Wish Foundation? We ended up given them a cheque of $8000! Well done!

And the winner is...

The 2007 TVB Chinese New Talent Singing Competition wrapped up the month of August. Spectacular performance by all.  This was probably the only show this year that I could sit down and watch the whole thing! Wasn't emceeing the show, more of a radio person that night, just did interviews and gathered sound bytes for my show.  Congratulations to Tian Tsui!! A good friend of mine who nailed every note and pretty much wowed the audience with a never before fast number!!  Complemented with a bit of eye catching dance, it was a breakthrough performance for Tian in a bold and daring move to be different! It paid off with winning Best Stage Performance and Winner in which she will represent Melbourne in the World Competition in Hong Kong at the end of Sept!

2 Down, 1 to Go...

I mentioned before the months of July, August and September are the busiest for me every year cos I have to prepare and host a handful of shows. Well...it's nearly the end of August so I have one more to go in September. A few people approached me after Miss Uni the other night and asked me to host some of their shows as well, haven't had the chance to talk about what they are, but definitely more work is on the table for this year.

Prepertual Productions boss Ken Law asked me to host his own personal show on August 19th for his dad's 80th Birthday! A guest list of well over 200 people, it was a celebration not to be missed. A few local talents filled the stage throughout the night, but it wouldn't be a complete show without the host family performing themselves! ALL of the Law family members can sing and that includes the in-laws!! So you would expect a crowd pleasing performance!

Some of the photos from the night:
